Johannesburg, South Africa – November 12, 2024 --Laser Light Africa, a subsidiary of Laser Light Companies[1] is now a registered entity in South Africa which marks it “Open for Business” to serve commercial and governmental data needs across the more than 1.5-billion-person continent.
“Laser Light Africa is now open for business and, thanks to our relationships with trusted partners around the continent, is already engaging with customers to meet their unique needs,” says Derek Friend, President SADC region, Laser Light Africa.
Committed to advancing connectivity, which will accelerate economic growth and innovation across the region, Laser Light’ African subsidiary is backed by a global support team and strategic direction from Laser Light Companies - its parent and fellow companies.
“Achieving this milestone enables a phased approach so that our African subsidiary can immediately start doing business as our parent company develops and launches its proprietary, unique multi-domain global data platform,” says Bob Brumley, Chairman and CEO, of the Laser Light Companies. “The formation of Laser Light Africa (PTY) Ltd. reflects Laser Light's strategic expansion into Africa and emphasizes its long-term commitment to serving the unmet needs of the continent – locally, regionally, globally - with its next-generation service platform.”
Laser Light Africa will leverage a wide variety of capabilities and partnerships drawn from leading companies seeking access to the continent. Laser Light Africa intends to offer access to hundreds of African data centers, redundant subsea optical cables on both the East and West coasts of Africa, urban bandwidth access, satellite connectivity ideal for rural environments, and extensive civil engineering capabilities.
Laser Light Companies launched its inaugural beta program in 2023 focused on 14 locations in Africa, Australia, Europe, South America, United Kingdom, Caribbean and the United States, converging terrestrial and subsea fiber onto its Laser Light proprietary platform. These are the initial building blocks of Laser Light’s next-generation global data platform. Laser Light’s all-optical platform will eventually comprise more than 300 far edge cloud service locations globally, supported by its own terrestrial fiber network as well as its own converged constellation of high throughput optical satellites.
